Day 1: Kigali to Volcanoes – Through Hills That Breathe Stories

Upon your arrival in Kigali, you are welcomed by your Friendly Gorillas Safaris guide—warm, knowledgeable, and of course a friendly one. After the meet and greet,yYou begin the adventure with a city tour that threads through Kigali’s heartbeat: the solemn Genocide Memorial, vibrant local markets, and art collectives that speak to Rwanda’s past and promise.

After lunch, you set out for the north. The road climbs. The air cools. Hills layer themselves into soft green folds. Children wave. Tea fields stretch like patterned cloth. And then the Virunga volcanoes appear—silent, towering, wrapped in mist.

By late afternoon, you arrive in Musanze, the gateway to Volcanoes National Park. You check into your forest lodge as the sun folds into the trees. Tonight, you sleep where giants roam.

Day 2: Gorilla Trekking – Into the Realm of the Gentle Giants

Wake early and in anticipation head to the gorilla trekking starting point at Volcanoes National Park Headquarters, you receive a briefing and are assigned a gorilla family based on your fitness and preference. Then the trek begins—sometimes steep, sometimes slow, always magical.

Through bamboo thickets, over mossy logs, under canopies heavy with dew, your guide leads you. And then—movement. A snap of a branch. A low grunt. And suddenly, they are there.

A silverback, massive and calm, surveys his family. A baby climbs a vine. A mother chews leaves in silence. You stay for one hour. As you watch them play, relate and feed And it stays with you forever. There are few words for what happens in those minutes. But your heart will know.

After the adventure, return to the starting point to collect your trekking certificate and later, you return to the lodge. The rest of the day is for resting, reflecting, and watching mist weave through the trees outside your window.

Day 3: Cultural Farewell & Return to Kigali

After breakfast, you may opt for a short cultural experience—visiting the Gorilla Guardians Village, where ex-poachers share stories, dance, and crafts. It’s not a performance—it’s a dialogue, a bridge between lives once divided by survival, now connected by conservation.

Then, you begin your return to Kigali, descending from volcano to valley. You arrive by late afternoon. Perhaps there’s time for a last coffee, a final souvenir, or simply a pause to realize what you’ve just experienced.
